"On December 9, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar will pay his first visit to Albania, with the aim of deepening our close, supported friendship. in common democratic values. Escobar will meet with Prime Minister Rama, Foreign Minister Xhaçka, Democratic Party Chairman Basha and other leaders to reaffirm the United States' unwavering support for Albania's democracy, EU integration, stronger defense cooperation and opportunities for trade and investment. "As stated in President Biden's Executive Orders, Escobar will also discuss the United States' determination to fight corruption, impunity and efforts to undermine democracy in the Western Balkans," said a statement from the US Embassy in Tirana.
He will hold the first meeting with the Democratic President Lulzim Basha around 11:00, to be followed by around 15:00, there will be a meeting with Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka. At 17:00, the American official will hold another meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama, without the presence of the media.
