The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla has stated that the Ambassador of Kosovo in Croatia, Martin Berishaj, continues to hold his position, since according to her, so far there is no indication that the accusations against him can be grounded. Gërvalla said that they could not dismiss an ambassador based on information from a media outlet.
She said that Berishaj was in the ministry and talked about the news that he is involved in a corrupt affair, while adding that they continue to consider this as a campaign based on an article by a Slovenian media.
"I have a long statement of several pages of Ambassador Berishaj in writing. Ambassador Berishaj has been in the ministry, we have talked at length about what we still consider as a campaign based on an article by a Slovenian medium which then received information. "I have talked to the authorities of different countries about this and until the moment we are talking there is no indication that the accusations mentioned in that report of that medium may have something real in it", said Gërvalla.
She stressed that the ambassador can not be suspended or fired based on information from a media outlet.
"I want to be very honest, the ambassador is not suspended or fired based on information from a media outlet without any other information. You also saw that the Montenegrin prosecutor's office provided information that there were investigations and it turned out that there is no criminal offense that could have been committed by Ambassador Berishaj, therefore this is our position so far. In the absence of even a single indication against Ambassador Berishaj, Ambassador Berishaj enjoys our trust and continues his work in Croatia as it has gone ", the Minister emphasized.
