The Premier League rival joins the race for De Jong

Frenkie de Jong is said to be more likely to join Manchester City, rather than local rival Manchester United, if he leaves Barcelona this summer.

According to a report in the Catalan newspaper Catalunya Radio, City could lead the race to sign De Jong from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The Dutch midfielder is also a target for local rivals Manchester United, but Bernardo Silva's desire to join Barcelona has left the Premier League champions in the lead in the race for De Jong's services.

De Jong has made 140 appearances for Barcelona so far, being among the most distinguished footballers, but despite this, his salary is proving to be a problem for the "Blaugrana".

Recent speculation has it that de Jong is considering joining Manchester United, despite initially hesitating to move to Old Trafford.

But United will have to avoid stiff competition from their neighbor, City, to get the Barcelona midfielder, though this could be difficult, as City are said to be leading the race for the Dutch star's services.
